What is Golf?

Golf is a ball and club sport which when playing, requires a series of different clubs to get the ball a certain distance. For one round of golf, there are eighteen holes to play. Each hole has a certain par. Par is the pre - determined number of strokes in which a zero handicap golfer should complete on a hole and the final score of the round. It is the key component of the play. The handicap of a golfer is the average amount of strokes they shoot over par for each round. Golf is one of the few sports in which it does not require a standardized playing area such as a sport like basketball. Golf is played on a course with different hazards around the greens and fairways. Each hole must consist of a tee box (Where you hit your first shot on the hole) and a green. (A green is where the hole is)
When playing in a golf tournament, the objective of the game is to shoot par. But what you really want is to shoot the lowest number of strokes.

Here are some interesting Facts about Golf:

-       Golf originated in the 15th century in Scotland.
-       Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair.

-       Only 4 Albatrosses have ever been recorded. (4 under par on one hole)
-       The longest putt ever was as long as 114 meters.
-       The chances of making two holes-in-one in a round of golf are one in 67 million.
